- Right-wing separatists in Oregon are making proposals to partially secede and join Idaho so they can leave their Democratic-leaning state for the more conservative State of Idaho without actually having to move.
- “Rural Oregon is declaring as loudly as it can that it does not consent to being misgoverned by Oregon’s leadership,” said Mike McCarter from the group named Citizens for Greater Idaho.
- “We promote the idea of creating a greater (bigger & stronger) Idaho so that conservative counties can become a part of a red state,” Citizens for Greater Idaho explains.

“Conservative separatists in Oregon are hoping to secede from the state and join Idaho.
“Harney County became the latest Oregon county to express interest in joining the “Greater Idaho” movement, an effort to secede from Democratic-leaning Oregon and join conservative Idaho,” Business Insider reports. “On Tuesday, a measure that would require local officials to hold meetings about the idea passed, with 63% of the vote in favor, according to the early results.”
Lake, Grant, Baker, Malheur, Union, Sherman, and Jefferson counties have also supported exploring secession.
“Rural Oregon is declaring as loudly as it can that it does not consent to being misgoverned by Oregon’s leadership and chooses to be governed as part of a state that understands rural Oregon’s values and way of making a living,” said Mike McCarter of Citizens for Greater Idaho.
Similar outage has been voiced by conservative activists in other Pacific Coast states. Activists in Washington have sought to form a new “Liberty State” that would include parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
